The Clean India Campaign (“Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan”)

  • Under this flagship program of the Government of India Centre For Sustainable Development, CFSD has been working proactively with the Nagpur Municipal Corporations to create awareness on segregation of waste, conducting flash card meetings in slums and municipal corporation schools to mitigate open defecation spots and make cities open defecation free. Verifying the progress of household toilet constructions and preparing independent report on proper utilization of assets created and behavior change of beneficiaries.

    Review and  Capacity building of NMC sanitation staff, Behaviour change communication using IEC material, Designing IEC material, the conduct of various events like debating competitions, Essay competitions, drawing competitions etc and Mohalla  Sabha, street plays, walkathons during the campaign period in schools, colleges, RWA’s, Govt and private institutions, slums etc.

  • Under SBM, solid waste management rules of 2016, CFSD has also enumerated the wastepickers ,feriwalas and Kabadiwalas(the informal sectors engaged in waste collection) of Nagpur city through socio economic survey . CFSD has also facilitated the distribution ID cards issued by Nagpur Municipal Corporation to the waste pickers.
  • CFSD is also working on the integration of the informal sector/wastepickers into the waste management plan of the city . CFSD is planning to set up Dry waste collection centres at Pangul basti,Chikali near Kalamna Market which will be set up in collaboration with The ULB , Nagpur
  • CFSD organizes health check-up camps for the waste pickers through Networking with different groups, organizations and clubs at bhandewadi dumping yard and other slums where waste pickers live. Renowned Doctors and specialists are also invited to conduct these camps and follow-up camps are also organized.
  • CFSD is a member organization of the “Alliance of Indian Wastepickers” ;a National network of organizations that advocate for the rights of the wastepicking community in India.
